What it is
Four to five days on foot, roughly forty-four kilometres in and out, ending with twelve hundred stone steps rising out of the river.
The honest part
Heat. Mud. River crossings. Five a.m. starts and simple beds under mosquito nets. It is not a luxury walk, and it is worth every step.
When
The dry months. In heavy rain the rivers rise and the descent turns to clay — check conditions before you plan.
Respect
This is a living sacred site, not a ruin. Follow your guides, stay within the marked terraces, and ask before photographs — of people first, of places always.
